Loading up.... - June 22, 2005

My friends, I am nearly ready for my mission. Objective: To have the best band in America. John Chamberlain called today and seems to be on our wavelength. I could use a good point man. I typed out about 60 song charts this morning, for our gig July 1st, so our rehearsals will move quickly. http://sidelinesbar.com I'm not sure I will be able to update this site, so keep a positive attitude and Great things will happen. All my best to you all....
p.s. Brenda, Thank you for your support.

Good Morning Sunshine! - June 21, 2005

It's 7:20 AM Pacific time. A beautifully overcast Oregon Coast stillness. The sunshine is in our hearts. Reno awaits. The Blue Eyed Crow duplicator awaits. Brenda has gone to work, kisses on her way out the door. Dog at my feet, resting. Cats hungry and impatiently on hold outside. Josh and Allison are in Modesto, probably getting ready for the pool. Tiffany and Rachell still asleep, maybe dreaming of their full-moon beach jaunt late last night. My time with you is precious. Love one another. That's the answer. All that has graced my life has made me a rich man, babe. I feel like an eagle on the edge of it's nest, with the nerves of my first flight. I will fly. The options do not serve me.

Mizz Bubba-Lou's First Birthday! Paul Weddle receives songlist. - June 19, 2005

The cat with a thousand faces was born one year ago in the midst of moving Brenda's family here to Granny's house! What a perfect time to be born! Happy Birthday, Bubba, and happy birthday to your sister, Ling. *note: The reason we called her Bubba was her size. She came out twice as big as the other cats, pushing her way without a wrapper! PIC OF BUBBA ON PHOTO PAGE! p.s. this cat fetches!
On a musical note: Tonight, on the phone, I read off eighty or so songs to Paul (wherever he was?) and he wrote them down and the repertoire is begun! Is this high-tech, or what? Jack White, our other guitarist for the sessions and gigs in Reno, had locked the door and went to sleep and Paul was still unable to get in the house at midnight. Rock and Roll, guys! Tomorrow I start to commence to begin to get ready for Reno! (I'm bringing my OWN bed!)
Thanks to my girls for the card, flowers and ESPECIALLY the new washcloths! And thanks to my son, Jason for remembering me. I love you all. Good night and happy Father's Day!
BL
Oh, yeah - Happy Fathers Day, Dad! Thanks for being with me.

BLYNDE CURVE in Las Vegas! - June 18, 2005

My brothers, Bryan Hurt, Nick Mota, and Marty McDonald (I don't know the other guys in the band yet), are competing for a record deal with Greg Allman at The Crown Theater in Las Vegas on June 24th, around 8pm! You guys: KICK THEIR SIN-CITY ASSES!

Just for fun, the inside of "The Crow" office....

YYYEEAAHHH! - June 16, 2005

It isn't very often I have needed to concoct a "plan D, E or F", and it was looking like that until I called Paul Weddle today. Ready for this? Paul Weddle is a Warrior! He is doing the gig WITH OR WITHOUT CANCER! So, it's ON! Sidelines Sports Bar And Nightclub, 1237 Baring Blvd, Sparks, Nevada, July 1st, 2005, nine to one AM...no cover..with Paul, and most likely his ex bandmates, Tim and Jack. YYEESS! http://www.sidelinesbar.com Now, this also means that the recording session is also.....ON! I know at this point its hilarious to give you the date of re-entry into the atmosphere, (middle of next week?) but we are musicians, not astronauts anyway. Did I say I had landed amongst angels? I'm telling you folks right now, there aren't alot of us, but together we have it all! Paul Weddle, my man, you are God-Powered and I love you! Brenda & family, Rome, Granny, Michele, Jami, Jeanne, Monica, Nancy, Glorya, AJ, Blynde Curve, Tinker, Joe, CW & Celia, Crawdaddy, Dan, Tomo, Nicco, Pancho, Chris, Rich, Chuck, Dustin, Doug, Sharon, David, many more...(well, maybe there ARE quite a few) LET'S ROCK!
Always more news: Pics of me and Rome at KRVM Broadcast now on photo page. Just look at what a pint of Grannys' apple jelly can get you!

Pass the popcorn, please? - June 15, 2005

My life is one of the best movies I have ever seen, and I'm gonna hold on to this seat.
Ok, you guys and gals: Check out http://www.michelelundeen.com I was simply taking care of business, called the Reno Blues Society, and had a wonderful chat with a delightful girl (living in San Diego!?) who happens to be the editor for the RBS newspaper. We yakked and yakked and she was giving me numbers to call in the Reno area, and I was generously sharing the amazing sequence of events from my life lately, and she says wants me to write about my guitar, and all of my misfortunes here at Grannies house, and she will put them in the RBS paper! I had no idea what an electrifying blues singer she is! We got along grandly! You all go check her site out, because she is not only a genuine helping heart, but also a very magnetic purveyor of the spirit that lives in us all.
Now, something I have not mentioned is that Monday, Paul Weddle called and told me his routine CT scan turned up some possibly very undesirable things. Paul is the bass player who is setting up my recording session, complete with kick-ass studio, engineer, AND drummer. Once again, my plans have needed altered, and altered again. Since Paul will be discombooberated the same date I had planned on arriving in Reno, and maybe still for the gig at Sidelines July 1st, I will bump my trip a week. Hearing my plight, Michele gave me her old bass player's number and, as of yesterday, it sounded like Bob McNamara and his drummer from The Woodies would be my rythm section, however today told a different story and Bob can't make it. Upon bouncing all this info off my friend Jami, we decided to do what Stu Blank would do! GO RIGHT AHEAD ON 'ER! You know something? With the people I have in my life right now, I have already landed amongst angels! Details as they come...like Jeanne says : KEEP THE FAITH!
In other news, Danny Vidrine received the 1953 Les Paul I sent to him in Baton Rouge, took it to his luthier who said "Yep, it's real!" So, I wont be bumming gas money after all, you can put your wallets back in their normal locations. Thanks for the peanut butter and jelly donations, folks!
It's been another scrumptious day in the life.....Tomorrow I should be posting the pix from KRVM...stay tuned and play every song like it's your last - one of these times it will be.
Namaste' and g'night, loves!

Worldwide Web Broadcast - Live from Eugene radio KRVM - June 12, 2005

Rock'n'Rome has a way of making you feel at home on his radio show. After the initial nerves of performing a worldwide broadcast ~solo~, I had a BALL being on the air today! Hope some of you listened and enjoyed "Our" new songs. I arrived in Eugene with just enough time to buy film for my 35mm camera and a blank cassette tape, pile into the studio, take some quick pictures and start playing. Will have some pix to post in a few days, as fast as Rite Aid can get them on disk. Did ya hear me holla, Crawdaddy?
G'night my friends.

KRVM Interview/copyright recording - June 9, 2005

This sunday, June 11, 2005, at 6PM for twenty minutes, I will be broadcast worldwide on Rock N Rome's FM radioshow out of Eugene, Oregon. KRVM 91.9 is also transmitted on a few other call numbers, depending on where in Oregon you are. I think 92.1 or 92.7. To hear some of my new songs online, go to http://www.KRVM.org.
Crawdaddy will be at the copyright recording session today with his video cam, so sometime in the future we may get to see me on the inside of David Fords studio.
Will be back later to let you know how it went.

more feelers...polish...sales... - June 8, 2005

Real quick entry here: Looks better all the time, and different than I expected...*Did you ever hear the phrase - If you want to make God laugh, make plans"? Juggling ideas between acoustic and electric performances, waiting to hear now from radio guys in Eugene and Reno...hopes high...expectations: hopefully NONE? (ha-ha - try that one folks!) Reno Blues Society connection, Boise Blues Society, too. I'm thinking maybe we could start betting on which road will open... but not with me! Jami, the Unknown Blonde better watch it or she will be famous before me! She's stirring up a Rock n Roll stew for us. Can't wait to eat some.
Practiced new songs today and ready for Dave Ford's studio tomorrow...Crawdaddy: thanks for letting us use your video cam...now, where the heck are ya so I can pick it up?? ...sold the '53 Les Paul (no, not MY baby) and shipped the sucker to Baton Rouge yesterday to be in good hands this time. I would have looked funny bumming gas money to get to Nevada anyway. Hardship financial forms for hospital bills... OHP.. umm really? My smokeless ashtray working overtime, things are ROCKIN'....a couple new pix from that old camera I found on photo page...more coffee! (Don't worry, it's half decaf. You weren't worried about me, were ya??

Garses' Bday pix @ THE UNKNOWN BAR / Heart check... - June 6, 2005

Finally got an appointment to take my test results and my happy little ass to Rouge Valley Medical and get to the bottom of this heart-rigmarole on July 6th. I will have been in Reno by then, so I will plan on driving back home around that date...

And - The long-awaited pix from Garses' birthday: just a few shots from a camera i found in the back of my van that night...check out photo page!

And....Mistah Soopah Fantassic (David Ford) is going to record me and my new tunes this thursday afternoon. Not a really critical session, just for copyright purposes, but, for nuttin' honey! freeee!
Thank you David Randall Ford!

[ guitar/synth/bass/vox/live sound]
*For booking The Bigfoot Blues Band or the Joneses contact David: ford.coos@verizon.net

Oh, by the way, I cleaned my desk and presto! I have 8 songs done - not 7. Then, when I get the paperwork and disk done and mailed off, I will set up a radio interview with my good friend, Rockin' Rome, KRVM 91.9 FM in Eugene, on a sunday night very soon, and play some of them on a live worldwide broadcast. Show starts at 6PM if I remember correctly, I might even remember to bring the tape Rome made of my mom (Granny) singing in Danish about two crows sitting on a wire and a farmer shooting them dead. DOUYT! How do them Danes move their tongue that way??? So, it's been a very productive couple of days and I feel FINE!
Like a friend of mine once said: "Subvert the negative paradigm"
But I like to just say: ROCK ME AGAIN!"

Louis, Louis! / Granny & Buds' ashes to Dellwood... - June 5, 2005

My beautifully significant other and I went to Unity By The Bay this morning. Hadn't been there for quite awhile. Saw a bunch of my good friends, and it felt like home there. Namaste' to you all. I was a little surprised near the end of the hour when Donna Pouliot, a dear friend and veteran of the "A Lick And A Promise" recording sessions called me up on stage to sing "our" song: "What A Wonderful World". It still hits that emotional spot just like it always has, and I am blessed by that feeling. I was welcomed by hugs from many open loving arms, and will always hold dear the entire "congregation". I couldn't resist doing my little Satchmo imitation on the last bridge....Thanks to Mr. Louis Armstrong.
This afternoon, me and Brenda are planning on driving up the south fork of Coos River just beyond the log dump to the general area of my mom and dad's first house, (the landscape looks much different now) and scatter their ashes into the river there. Granny, Dad...we all love you VERY much! Isn't that right, folks? I will try to get a picture of them and post it later.
Love, BL
p.s. Sounds like a plan, Glorya- See you there!

tick tock tick tock..... - June 3, 2005

Hi!Hello!Howaya?Goodtaseeyaagain! Dammit, Jim! The Brick Pigs' Best Kept Secret Ambushed the Silverhawk as Bigfoot Faded into Timberwolf territory, knowing Southern Phat had Manifested it's List for the Easy Money Toys. Was this the return of Elkhorn the Downtrodden? Tune in next week for the exciting conclusion of: As The World Turns, My Foot Drags.
In other not-so-dramatic news, I was invited to Boise to play with some of the blues cats over there, but it's the same date I could be going to Santa Rosa to lay down a track or two for my friend Sonny's new CD featuring Mr. Charlie Musselwhite. Two weeks and counting folks, I will be in Reno by the 20th of June. Every time I flip a coin to see which road to take, the darned thing lands on it's SIDE! Good thing I'm not in charge, huh? You know I love you, and don't you forget it!

Web-spinning... - May 29, 2005

Hello and Namaste' to you all - Have been upgrading and updating the site, and hope you like the changes. Took some time for myself today. The best musicians know that the rest is as important as the note, and I believe that goes for Life in general, too. It was quite peaceful in town, as good chunk of the active population was out at some campground drying their tents and sleeping bags from yesterdays thunderstorms I'm sure.
Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention that the Big Party that was supposed to happen in Lodi last night, actually happened thursday night, at the Roundhouse, sources said, only 20 bikes showed up, and evidently no special guest?! At least the guest of honor is out of the pokey! Will give you a report in some fashion about Blynde Curve at Tower Park tonight when I hear ok? Also - I took my guitar over to Vinny's today and he's gonna file and re-crown the frets and check the intonation etc so it will be like "ringin a bell" for the recordings...Keep faith...great things happen!
Love to you all.

Nightly buzz... - May 27, 2005

Hey - I went to the WAVES show tonight at SWOCCollege, and Nicco Rocks! I didn't get to see the whole show, But I saw the first two routines he was in. The heavy metal one was especially good. My new cell phone then took me outside, and I was informed that Yorgi - my brodder - is on his way to my place, and I hadn't seen him since the Sprindale Pub gig, so I'm home now waiting. The 2 lil'est kids are leaving in the morning to spend 6 weeks in CA, and house is buzzing...So, Nicco - I want to thank you for inviting me, it was food for my creative self, and my hat's off to the North Bend High School Modern Dance Team. Thanks for the eye candy!
G'night folks! BL

New door opening further! - May 26, 2005

Yesterday the Unknown Blonde called and has been doing her Rock n Roll duties. As a result, this morning, I confirmed the first gig of my Reno/Sparks area "tour". It's at The Sidelines Sports Bar and Nightclub in Sparks (see calendar/links pages). CD release party, July 1, 2005 from 9PM til 1AM. How bout them apples? Thanks to all my fans and friends for your faith and support..More to come...as Dave Carrillo and Mike Woods would say: RAAWWWKKK!

Time will tell.... - May 25, 2005

Hello my friends - My feelings are still a bit raw from talking to William at the Timber Inn a couple days ago. I do not corner well. But I DO play with others well, contrary to the lies, behind-the-back manipulations, and basically insane reasonings given as excuses in order to get me out of my job as host for the blues jam at the Timber Inn. Like I said before, something smells like fish. Bad fish. I do not prefer to dwell in negative areas, and that is why I am not dealing with the aforemention establishment. Miracles do happen, though, and I have seen them. God, please help William experience a cranial-rectal inversion. It's just not part of my program. Thank you.
I am saddened and exasperated by this. The blues lives on, whenever and wherever people experience injustice and feel the need to express themselves, the blues will be there. I have said before that I have very fond feelings for the men and women who participated and made it the "coolest gig in town". I will also say that if any one of you had been singled out as a "bad seed", and forced to make the same decision that I did, I would stand with you, and walk right out the door. I hope you hear me. Those of you who have known me through the years know too, that there is no doubt it is true. I will not allow myself to be treated that way, and I will not abandon my friends or loved ones if they are subjected to that kind of crap. So, it's up to you bluesmen and women. What's it gonna be? Maybe we can find another place to do it......Time will tell...
p.s. Man, do we rock or WHAT?
Healing be with us....BL

TV wood - Logging acrobats - May 21, 2005

Hey All - Couldn't just let you sit there and wonder what I'm up to any longer. I'm not going to mention the XXXXX XXX at the XXXXXX XXX, ok? But, I did take the pix from Garse's B-day and Rite Aid sent them off to get put on a disk, so will be posting them when they get back next week. Also, the pix emailed to me of the night I jammed with Southern Phat dont seem to be loading..hmmm shall I blame MacIntosh again? Naaa- that's not much fun.
But, as a VERY special entree, I will show you hopefully tonight where the perfect wood they burn in the fireplaces on television comes from. Josh and me competed today for the title of the Ferndale Logging Acrobatics Games. His stunt, which was hard to top was diving headlong down the bank in the Superman position all the way to the sidewalk, finishing with an amazing handstand and fully-extended ass-over teakettle backflop! Wow, Josh! Fantastic! Not to be outdone, 20 feet above the concrete, my chainsaw was seized by a Douglas Fir limb, rendering it and me helpless for a brief time. My wonderous fiancee heard me yelling for a rope and threw it up to me, I dabbed a loop on that mean old limb, threw the other end of the rope over the limb above it, took the slack and made a noose and promptly got my foot stuck in it, tied the saw to the slack and wiggled and shook until my testicles disappeared, then a little more...and 5 maybe 10 minutes later broke the evil limbs' grip on my saw and proved that man is smarter than tree? Anyway, that's my story and I'm stickin to it. Official results should be in very soon. Don't even think about touching that dial!
Southern Phat by the way, happens to be rockin in Myrtle Point tonight at the Rusty Sprocket. If you are in the area, GET YOUR BUTT THERE!
Love, BL

Reno session/Rogue Valley medical?/TI Blues Jams?? - May 17, 2005

Just got off the phone with one of my (in-life) mentors, Chuck Holbert, and he gave me names of two cardiologists at Rogue Valley Medical, and my ol' buddy Jodi at Bay Clinic (calls me "Doctor Bob"). She will be settin' me up to take my heart test results to Medford. Hopefully before my trip to Reno. * I gotta tell ya right here and now, folks, I have had NO PAIN or discomfort physically except the O.D. on caffeine, and I am back to 1/2 decaf like I have been for 9 years...funny how we forget stuff, huh? Anyway, I talked with Paul Weddle and he's supposed to be gettin the NV place ready for us to stay for awhile while we put some new stuff on record. It sounds like within a month maybe...no precise predictions from me! Last night a miracle happened, as right before my very eyes, I was creating a new "2nd Sheet" (that's an extra b/w promo page) on Adobe Illustrator on a MacIntsoh! Whooa! The computer idiot running a professional graphics program!! Still don't know how that happened really...Amazed myself. But, got it done and will ship a bundle off to The Unknown Blonde, and she's gonna shake them in some venue-bookers faces around Reno. Go, Jami!
I know I haven't mentioned it, but the fate of the blues jams at the Timber Inn is as of yet unknown. (to me, anyway) There has been a fishy smell in the air. Wonder if there's any correlation. Will try and find out as soon as I can. It seems that the Fri/Sat band has claimed Thursday night this week. Can they just do that? Those of you who know me well can imagine what my response will be and humor yourselves...(wink) If it's over, I will say to the players that contributed, that in some way or another, I love you all, and you can believe this:
WE AINT DONE YET!

Garses' B-Day/Back at the TIBJ - May 13, 2005

From the look on his face, he was feeling no pain, (at least last night) but it must be hard turning 28 over and over again, isn't it Garse? hehee...I love you my brother. The jam was great and so was the birthday cake. Thanks Shawna, It was great to be back with what have come to be the regulars...Tomo, Pancho, Thiago, Nicco feel like my brothers, along with Crawdaddy and Dan from Southern Phat, Roy Eikamp, The Bigfoot Blues Band, (Fred Corbett, Dave Ford and Garse), Ryan on drums and his brother...can't remember his name, but hot licks on guitar for sure....Bryan Brian, Dave Andrist, good ol' boys of local rock....Got some pix coming if they turn out. One of a bunch of us arm in arm singing Louie, Louie....Oh, yeah Jonah did some really good basswork, too. Thanks to you all..
Tonight I am finally going to sit in with Southern Phat and we will kick your butt! See you soon. love BL

Acceptance/Gratitude - May 12, 2005

Hello my fellow peeples - Just a brief word, then to get to the Timber Inn for the Blues Jam. For those of you following my news page, the Doctor called yesterday with my official results. It wasn't nearly as bad as he had thought....but the "inferior" part of my heart MIGHT put me at risk for a heart attack. Isn't that kinda like saying you might have a tree fall on your head? Anyway, I have consulted my best resources....Tony V., mainly, and have decided to take the test results to Umpqua Valley Hospital and get a second opinion. That means a trip tp Medford...Guess I will take my acoustic and see if I can augment some of the charge$ ? One thing I am grateful for is that I have had absolutely no pain, execpt what the testing at the hospital put me through, and the normal everyday beaurocratic BS of dealing with the system...
In other news, our long distance has been blocked due to heiferdustial reasons and wont be back on for a day or so. Therefore I don't know what's up with Paul Weddle and my recording session ( which will be in Reno if and when); Also, the Tower Park gig is, to my knowledge, all but out of the happenings for me, cuz it dont pay nuttin' honey! As usual, I remain open and ready to ROCK!
Another note is that I have finished 7 songs to be on the new CD. See you soon. love BL
P.S. A million thank you's to all the people who called me and prayed for me when I was a specimen!

Quantum Leap - The Series Continues... - May 7, 2005

Hello Hello to all of my fans, friends, and families! I may have left some of you up in the air, so to speak, so I will now attempt to put things in from my perspective.
To start with, the aforementioned "next door opening" happened immediately after my first good nights' sleep, upon returning from Lodi. That being a call from Paul Weddle, bass player in the best sense of the words, inviting me back down to the Sacramento area to record my new CD. Ever since I met Paul, which was at the 20th Annual River Run in Laughlin, Nevada in 2002, I have wanted to make music with that guy. Now, it seems very likely to be a reality. Have you been reading my mind, Paul? My friends, this is gonna be good! It is not just a coincidence that Paul just quit the band he was in and moved north, as if to meet me halfway. What we both have in common is the desire to have the BEST band in the US. Simple as that. I will keep you all updated as time goes by, that which has really been flying for me.
At this point, my body was in Coos Bay and my mind was in Sacramento, with my heart somewhere in between. Running back through the inspirations of my life, recalling Rooster, Doug Randall, Doug Richards, the Revis brothers, and finally a place to mention the guy who originally taught me the meaning of the "Good morning, sunshine" greeting: Jack Robertson, along with others who alot of you have never heard of, but were in some way nearly Divine direction to me, and as the little boy in me cried "I just got home", I am surely deciding to go south again before too long. It's what I was meant to do. I love my new family here and I love my fiancee VERY much, and Brenda is behind me 100%. That's a woman. She understands what music means to me and what Powers (greater than the sum of my parts) have gifted me with.
Then.....A fastball...Recently forgetting about my true addiction to really good coffee, I had stopped using 1/2 decaf and replaced it with espresso. All the tree fort, dog pen and house building was a zoom! Then I noticed my heart didn't slow down as usual when I meditated or napped....Brenda got me an appointment to see a doctor, and that next day (Thursday May 5) I went to Bay Clinic to get checked. I didn't feel bad and had absolutely no pain, but they found something they didn't like and sent me to Bay Area Hospital. (Hello to all the people who helped me along my way) Man, what a detour. Scared a few of my friends to hear that I was going to miss the Thursday Night Jam at the Timber Inn, due to heart trouble? Is that the blues or what? I don't ever remember missing a gig my entire life! (mumbling cuss words!@X&^$%%) But after being rolled, poked, prodded, stuck, squeezed, injected with radioactive stuff and something that makes you feel like you are HAVING a heart attack just to test??? For 24 hours, keeping me awake with monitoring and bloodlettings etc., in order to give me a stress test at 6:30AM the next morning....the nurse at the "echo-cardiogram" gave me a blow-by-blow report and saw that there was no blockage anywhere at all...heart looks just FINE, I imagine what the guest of honor at a redneck pig-roast feels like. OK - so the "official" diagnosis will not be in until after one more test which will be Monday at 7:30AM. Hopefully not days after, but you know about the "system" as well as I do. So, seein's how I feel no pain and have not felt any pain besides what was administered running all these tests, (I realize it's their job-thank God for the medical professionals), again, the real authority, the authentic Power always has the final word, and I will be rock-n-rollin and carrying the message to the very best of my ability. period.
Thanks to all of you without who's support and love I would be less happy, and Namaste'!
BL

Back to the drawing board....one more time. - May 2, 2005

Regathering myself, after a thousand miles in 48 hours, and back where I started. My trip to Lodi revealed information leading to my cancellation of all three gigs memorial day weekend. George Thorogood may never know what he missed out on, but it ain't over til it's over.
So, I will say thanks to AJ for never giving up, to Louie and Debra, and Tee and Pat, and all the good people I met at the Roundhouse, The Studebaker Blues Band for the hot tunes, and Nick, Bryan, Johnny and Marty from Blynd Curve, Allen, Mary, and the whole neighborhood by the Lodi Ironworks shop for puttin' me up.
Now, for me to continue the business of sewing up loose ends that I have created in the last couple years here around home, record a new CD, and stay alert for the next door that opens..... Good to be home. Maybe see you at the blues jam this week? Love, BL
